Winter Wonderland
Slovakia has long snowy winters and loads of mountain ranges, the perfect terrain for skiing plus Slovaks love to ski! All winter long in villages and towns throughout the country, hills and low mountains are tricked out with ski lifts and dotted with skiers blazing down the slopes. Slovakia boasts dozens of fully appointed ski resorts, concentrated in its northern mountain ranges such as the High Tatras. Slovak resorts provide dramatically beautiful settings and fun, inexpensive skiing, snowboarding and cross country skiing for enthusiasts of all skill levels. For an extra bit of excitement there is ski mountaineering, which is a mix of downhill skiing, climbing and ski touring In Vysne Ruzbachy where Pinewood Valley is located snow falls are abundant, providing a constant winter snow cover up to 2 metres thick. There are eight ski runs in total, mostly served by T lifts (up to 950m). A new chair lift is due to open for 2007/8 winter season plus a brand new snow-board downhill slope. The skiing conditions are excellent with the slopes offering runs and tracks for all types of skiers, from beginners to experts. The ski runs are maintained in excellent condition and the resort is equipped with machines for artificial snow. At Pinewood Valley you can ski right from your front door down to the ski station with access to the ski lifts, ski services, Ski School and restaurant. Night time skiing on two of the blue downhill runs is available three times a week and for the kiddies young and old there is snow tubing. For the less adventurous there are horse drawn sleighs for hire. A four person sleigh costs around 20 Euros per hour. ![]() |
