High Tatra Tourism

The Tatry (Vysoke) mountains cover some 39,800 hectares with 25 peaks over 2500 meters above sea level. Today the High Tatras together with the Low Tatras is attracting increasing numbers of visitors for leisure and recreation. The most popular winter resorts being Strbski Pleso, Tatranska Lomnica and Stary Smokovec all of these also offer excellent summer activities too. A spot not to miss is 'Spisska Sabota' just 1km outside of Poprad town. Visitors are attracted to the stunning scenery and landscapes combined with the outdoors experience the region offers.

British visitors have been on the increase since the entry of Slovakia into the European Union. And with English being more widely spoken it is no longer a best kept secret. The largest impact has been the introduction of flights to Poprad from Stanstead by low cost airline Sky Europe.

The High Tatras are going through unprecedented regeneration. With new found wealth resulting from the countries' economic policies, the region is seeing new transport infrastructure, new shopping centres, restaurants and luxury goods shops abound. Peoples lifestyles are changing too, the recent introduction of mortgages have increased demand for housing and pushed up property prices considerably.
